David Evans
Director of Innovation
David Evans is Director for Innovation and a member of the Board in the new Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). He is currently leading the Department's work on a new strategy for science and innovation. He is also responsible for managing the Department's support programme for innovation and the use of technology in business and its work on standards.
From March 2005 to April 2006 David Evans was acting Director General in DTI Services Group. He was previously DTI's Director of Finance from January 2003.
From June 2001 to January 2003 he was Deputy Chief Executive of the Small Business Service where he was responsible for the oversight of its operational delivery of support services for small businesses.
From 1998 to 2001 he was head of DTI's Central Directorate and was responsible for the preparation of two Competitiveness White Papers - 'Opportunity for all in World of Change' (Feb 2001), Our Competitive Future, Building the Knowledge Driven Economy. (Dec 1999). From 1992 to 1998 he was head of DTI's Technology and Standard Directorate where he was responsible for DTI's Technology and Innovation policy and support for standardisation.
From 1989 to 1992 he was Chief Scientist at the Department of Energy where he was responsible for the Departments R&D strategy including its work in support of reusable and new energy energy sources and policy on energy and environment issues including global warming.
