Stephen Marston
Director general, Further Education and Skills Group - DIUS
Stephen Marston is the Director General for Further Education and Skills in the new Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills (DIUS). Before the Machinery of Government changes he was the Director General of Lifelong Learning and Skills in the former Department for Education and Skills (DfES) as it then was. Prior to that he was Director of Skills Group, DfES since June 2002.
Stephen joined the Department for Education and Science (as it then was) in 1983. He has worked on a range of schools, FE, HE and finance issues in various posts across the Department. He was seconded to the Cabinet Office Economic Secretariat in the early 1990s. Between 1998 and 2002 he was seconded to the Higher Education Funding Council for England as Director for Institutions.
