Publication Scheme

This is the Department's publication scheme, drawn up under Section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The aim of the Publication Scheme is to define those classes of information that the Department routinely publishes. The Scheme is therefore relatively high level. For more detailed lists of published documents, refer to the DIUS website where published documents are grouped under the relevant subject areas.

The Scheme covers documents available in a variety of formats. These range from computer files (for example, databases, web pages or documents printed from a desktop PC) to paper-based materials such as reports, books and leaflets.

The Publication Scheme sets out:

  • Classes of information we commit to publish as a matter of course
  • How this information will be published
  • Whether the information is available free of charge or on payment.

DIUS will shortly commence the process of designing a new publication scheme, taking into account new guidance and model schemes from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). In the interim, we are implementing the schemes of our parent departments, DCSF and BERR. These may be found at:

BERR Publication Scheme
for information classes relating to science and innovation
DCSF Publication Scheme
for information classes relating to higher and further education

Both of these schemes also include information classes relating to governance and other corporate matters.

Note that the Publication Scheme is not a directory of published documents - for this you should browse the DIUS website to find those documents of interest.
