  • Working across Government to deliver innovation through government procurement;
  • Science and Innovation network;
  • Sponsorship of Foresight programme;
  • Delivering and further developing the recommendations in the Innovation Nation White Paper and Sainsbury Report;
  • Relationships with the Research Councils;
  • Enhancing the profile and take-up of STEM subjects;
  • Science and Society;
  • Responsibility for:
    • Technology Strategy Board;
    • British National Space Centre;
    • National Weights and Measures Laboratory;
    • Design Council;
    • National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts;
    • Energy Technologies Institute; and
    • Commission for Environmental Markets and Economic Performance.
