Youth participation in education, training and work

Building Engagement, Building Futures is the Government's strategy to improve the engagement of 16 to 24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEETs).

On 15 December 2011 the Government launched Building engagement, building futures (PDF, 861 Kb) . This strategy aims to improve the engagement of 16 to 24 year olds in education, training and work.

Participation in education, skills training and employment make a lasting difference to individuals. It is also pivotal to the Government’s ambitions to stimulate economic growth and improve social mobility.

In November 2011, the Deputy Prime Minister announced the Government’s new Youth Contract. This will support some of our most vulnerable 16 to 24 year olds in England to re-engage in education or training.

The Government recognises the need for joined-up policy across education, training, skills and employment. This strategy was published jointly with the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It aims to help every young person make progress towards adult life and successful careers.
