Commissioning letters and guiding principles for users contributing to the Higher Education Debate

The following links provide access to pdf copies of the letters and guiding principles (MS Word document, 37KB) sent to representatives of the users of higher education who will articulate their perspectives on what a world class higher education sector will look like in ten to fifteen years time.

We are also hearing the student view, and are working with members of the National Student Forum

  • Dame Marjorie Scardino (PDF 347KB)
    A member of the Prime Minister's Business Council of Britain, and, as Chief Executive of Pearson, someone with experience of the higher education publishing world.
  • Nick Hytner (PDF 343KB)
    Director of the National Theatre, who will respond reflecting views from arts and culture.
  • Sir John Chisholm, (PDF 369KB)
    Chairman of both Qinetiq and the Medical Research Council who will give an external view of universities' and colleges' role in both research and technology transfer.
  • John Griffith-Jones (PDF 350KB)
    Joint chairman and UK senior partner of KPMG who will respond with a perspective from another part of the business community.
  • Tom Russell (PDF 351KB)
    The head of the London Development Authority's Olympic Legacy Directorate who will give a public sector viewpoint.

    of Magic Lantern who will provide the perspective of a small business in the creative sector.
  • Dr T Ramasami (PDF 363KB)
    The Secretary to the Indian Department for Science and Technology who has agreed to offer an overseas perspective.

The reports of these representatives of users of higher education are due in early December, at which time they will be introduced into the higher education debate process.
